Optimising EFB workflows with favourite modules

In a cockpit environment, speed and simplicity when using electronic flight bag (EFB) applications aren’t nice-to-haves, they’re essential!

Pilots don’t have time to navigate through multiple menus to find critical information. They need it instantly, exactly where they expect it.

That’s where the ability to favourite modules on the skybook EFB becomes a small workflow optimisation with a big operational impact.

Putting pilots first

It’s no secret that every pilot works slightly different…

Some prioritise weather and NOTAMs. Others might go straight to charts, fuel or operational data.

For many airlines, EFB workflows may be fixed, meaning users at the airline adapt to the system, rather than the system adapting to them.

Although some solutions like skybook allow admin customisation.

Having the ability to favourite specific modules, changes the dynamic!

Pilots can now personalise their EFB experience, selecting the modules that matter most to them and accessing them directly on the Summary dashboard.

Giving them flexibility to create an EFB workflow optimisation that reflects how they operate.

To favourite a module, users simply swipe on it and tap the star icon. Once selected, it appears as a link at the top of the Summary dashboard for instant access; with a maximum of 10 favourited modules available in total.

The role of the summary dashboard

To understand the value of favourited modules, it’s important to look at the role of the Summary dashboard itself.

The Summary dashboard sits at the heart of the skybook EFB. Designed to give pilots a clear, concise snapshot of the flight ahead while providing seamless access to key areas of the application.

It combines both high-level insight and quick navigation, bringing together critical operational data in one place. Typically, this includes:

  • Quick links to key modules such as NOTAMs, weather route charts and integrated charting apps
  • Flight and aircraft information, including STD/STA and operational timings
  • Crew and fuel summaries, with direct links to input or edit data
  • METAR and TAF weather data
  • MEL status, integrated directly from maintenance systems
  • Flight history, providing context from previous sectors

A smarter adaptive workflow

Ultimately, the Summary dashboard acts as the central hub of the EFB app, a place where pilots can quickly assess the flight and quickly navigate to the information.

By introducing favourited modules into this space, skybook takes this one step further:

  • Less searching through menus
  • Reduced tapping or navigation
  • Direct access to priority information

This reduces cognitive load and allows pilots to stay focused on decision-making. What makes this feature powerful isn’t just convenience, it’s adaptability.

Favourited modules allow the EFB to align with individual pilot preferences, support different operational scenarios and aircraft type, as well as enabling the EFB to dynamically evolve as workflows change over time.

Small feature, big impact

As EFB solutions continue to evolve, the focus is shifting from simply digitising processes to optimising how pilots interact with information.

Features like favourited modules are a step in that direction, turning EFB usability into a more intuitive, personalised and efficient tool for modern flight operations.
